As I needed to make a hole in a large diameter plastic. Buying a drill ring nozzle was terribly unprofitable for just one hole. Moreover, I know that then it’s definitely not useful to me later. And the idea came to me to make a drill out of a can of beans.
I will show you how to make such a drill with a large diameter, with which you can make holes in plastic, plywood, drywall and other soft and thin materials.
Fortunately, now in the store you can buy cans of various diameters - from beans, olives, peaches, etc. So picking up a boring diameter for you should not be difficult. All this is better and cheaper than throwing out one-time 10 bucks for a hole saw.
Open the jar
We are looking in the store for the diameter you are interested in. Then open the jar. We take out the product and rinse the jar with water so that it is clean.
Stitch sharp edge inside
Using a grinding tool, grind the sharp groove inside the can, which formed after opening.
Drill a hole
Precisely at the centers we drill a hole in the bottom of the can. First we go through the smallest diameter, and then the largest. These steps will add precision, so do not drill immediately with a large drill.
Cut the teeth
To cut the teeth, I used an engraving machine with a nozzle, but this can also be done with a hand tool, say, a hacksaw for metal.
Sharpening the bolt and installing the center pin
Take a long bolt with nuts, longer than a can of centimeters by 5-6. We cut the head and sharpen one side under the tip.
Then fix the bolt in the bottom of the can. Tightening the nuts on both sides.
On both sides of the bolt fastening, fill the nut with hot glue.
Large diameter drill tests
Our drill is ready! You made your hole saw without much effort and most importantly costs!
Now you can cut plastic, acrylic and drywall.
Before drilling holes in anything, use a conventional drill to drill a hole in the center, so that the bolt of our tool could be inserted.
Such a tool is ideal if you need to cut a few holes in the materials mentioned above and not to spend extra money.
