Leather products will never go out of fashion. And to create a leather wallet with your own hands is simple and interesting.
Even if leatherworking is not your hobby, with simple author instructions, the result will be great.
You will need a piece of not too hard skin. Cutting it best with a metal ruler and torch. The scissors edge is hairy and not so smooth.
Cut two rectangles of the same size. The outer and inner sides can be of different colors, you can also emboss or burn the ornament.
The main stages of work
In the next step, join the workpieces together and fold them in half. Cut the protruding part of the inner piece of skin.
Now cut a small strip on top of it, stepping back from the edge, so it will be more convenient to pull out bills.
Mark the slots for plastic cards on both sides of this blank. Make holes at the edges with a puncher and cut strips about 3 mm wide.
Now, with a blade, cut off the inner layer of skin from the back of the incisions to make the edge thin.
Now take the outside of the future wallet. On three sides, except for the top, treat the edge with glue suitable for leather products.
A couple of centimeters on both sides of the fold with adhesive does not need to be coated. Do the same with the second workpiece.
Align one edge of the parts of the wallet and press firmly at the place of gluing. After that, bend the workpieces and connect the other edge. Remove excess glue with a cloth or soft cloth.
At the final stage, stepping back from the edge of 3-4 mm, outline the line of the seam line to the ruler. Next, use a thick needle to punch holes at an equal distance from each other.
If opportunities allow you, use a leather hole punch or a thin drill. Sew the seam with waxed thread, carefully tightening each stitch.
