The main function of the welder’s hammer is to remove slag from the surface of the weld. And you can make such a hammer with your own hands from a thick metal plate.
The basis of the slag hammer are: a double-sided head with a striker and a handle. The hammer is a flat blade in the shape of a chisel.
And the first thing to do is to make the hammer itself out of the plate. The shape may be different, depending on which one you like best.
The main stages of work
At the next stage, a handle will need to be cut out from a piece of metal plate. The thickness of the handle should be the same as that of the hammer head.
After that, both parts must be processed on a grinding machine and welded together. For this, the details will need to be fixed motionless on the desktop using self-tapping screws with washers.
To make the handle of the slag hammer conveniently in my hand, the author decided to make two wooden pads for her. They will need to be cut in the shape of a handle.
Then, in the hammer handle and pads, the author drills holes and fastens them on epoxy resin, using two bolts for reinforcement. And after the epoxy hardens, the protruding parts of the bolts must be cut off with a grinder.
