Miniature things, and even more so functional and convenient to use, always touch people. Today our homemade product is just one of those. In this review, we present to your attention a mini planer.

To make it, you will need a modern tool, patience and considerable experience in casting. First, we will make a detailed drawing for printing on a 3D printer the blanks of the future product.

Then we create a silicone mold from two-component casting silicone. After casting the mold, we get a reusable pattern for casting wax molds.

The main stages of work

Having received the wax form, we proceed to the production of a plaster template for the future planer. We connect the template and the bottom of the flask with wax strips for a stable standing in the flask. The gate can be made of polystyrene foam.

We apply a thin layer of gypsum on the entire template in order to prevent destruction from subsequent pouring with a gypsum solution. We install the shape of the product into the flask, fill it with a gypsum composition, while vibrating it well to release air bubbles.

After drying, remove the lid and expose the gate. The muffle furnace will help to remove wax and gate. At the same time, it also heats the gypsum flask, which subsequently excludes its destruction from temperature differences.

Making a planer body

We melt the right amount of metal, pour it into a heated form. After cooling, we get rid of excess metal and get a draft version of the planer.

Then begins the plumbing of all surfaces and holes. In the holes on two sides we will install a bronze hairpin and rivet it on both sides.

We proceed to the manufacture of the wedge. It is very easy to make it from hardwood, according to the drawing. We will make a knife from a strip of metal. We cut, grind and set the cutting edge.

If the metal requires hardening, then we will carry out the procedure of hardening and tempering (if necessary) of the metal. We collect our planer. We look at the details of the production in the video below.
