When cracks appear on the windshield, most often it only has to be replaced with a new one. However, not everyone can afford it, so in this review we will look at how you can get rid of cracks on your own, using some tricks from professional car mechanics.
To restore the windshield, you will need a cordless screwdriver, glass drills, alcohol wipes, a mallet with a rubber head, as well as a stationery knife and ordinary tape. The most important ingredient is polymer glue, which is used to fill cracks in the glass.
The main stages of work
First, using special alcohol wipes, it is necessary to clean the surface of the windshield in the place where the crack appeared. We retreat 1-1.5 mm from the beginning of the crack, sealing it first with tape, and with a pointed drill we make a small depression.
Then we change the drill to the gimlet and slightly expand the hole. You need to drill approximately 1 mm deep. Next, take a thin drill, insert it into the hole and lightly hit it with a wooden handle of a mallet. Now the crack is “stopped” and will not go further to “walk” along the windshield.
Filling the crack with glue
A similar operation is performed on the other side of the crack. Next, remove the tape and wipe the surface of the glass with a solvent. Then we take a special resin (it can be ordered on AliExpress) and carefully fill the crack.
When the entire “groove” has been shed with glue, we drive the car out in the sun so that the polymer mixture is completely dry - this resin hardens best under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. Here is such a simple but effective way to deal with cracks in the windshield yourself.
